Do you remember that dream you had, where the sound chips from the beloved games consoles of your youth all got together and formed a Weezer tribute band? Yeah? No? OK. That dream is about to come true whether you had it or not. The songs on this compilation have mostly been created using original videogame hardware running home-brew software, and vary radically in style, from minimal 'one man and his Game Boy' compositions to 8-bit inspired full band performances. Although attempted numerous times before, Pterodactyl Squad have finally done the original album justice with the definitive 8-bit interpretation of Pink Floyd's progressive rock classic. Produced as an 8-bit mirror of the original, the music on this release was created using sounds from various old games consoles including the Sega Mega Drive and Nintendo Game Boy.

"Triple Screen is what a 3-screen handheld gaming system would sound like. This system uses the 320-bit Z-sound chip, which doesn't really exist in real life. I just made that up, because Triple Screen is mostly a huge tribute to the many styles, sounds, cultures, and moods of music found in video games. It is my way of saying "arigato gozaimasu" to all of the awesome Japanese composers that made our childhoods so awesome with such diverse, inspiring soundtracks. They are the...

"Zombie Birthday Cake actually started off as a funny thought between two guys (Ray Fix and Johnathan Godbolt) who wanted to make an "old school" sidescrolling action game about zombies - think Resident Evil mixed with the original Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden series. We wanted it to be pretty violent, as action packed as a 2D title could be, and have our friends in it as both main and supporting characters. Sadly though, a year and a half into production, the game went on...

The EP you are about to listen to is the retrospective soundtrack to the amazing true story of three tree-climbing friends and their adventures at the dawn of handheld gaming. It all started when no-one could afford the all-new Nintendo Game Boy - they were kids and their combined powers and paper round salaries would not allow it, meaning they would have to wait for Christmas or a birthday. Sie cut the Game Boy from his mum's Argos catalogue (not actual size) and glued it to the back of some...

lpower is back with his most absorbing release to date - Abinox. The compositions here are longer, moodier and feature more minimalist concepts than his previous works. The Canadian composer wanted to examine and explore how 16-bit video game soundtracks were put together in the old days, and he assembled a 'super setup' of nostalgic chips and synths (TurboGrafx-16, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, NES, OSCar synth, Yamaha DX7) with which to do so. The music found on this EP is primarily inspired by the genres of IDM and breakcore, but also draws influence from the harmonies and melodiousness of Super Nintendo-era roleplaying games. Emanon is the faux soundtrack to a futuristic RPG racing game that would likely have been played in the 90s in one of those fancy-looking arcade racing booths. Using this concept as a base, lpower took some of his favourite samples from various consoles and synths and used them to craft the music which would play during the racing levels and cut scenes. Typically upbeat, melodic and intelligent, Emanon is a rich exploration of sounds from years gone by.

arcadecoma. return at long last with a winter-themed horror concept EP. When extreme weather hits Scotland, Will Furphy is delighted to be forced indoors - he now has all the time he needs to play the coolest games of his youth and escape the world. But when vicious white creatures emerge from the snow, Will finds he isn't having quite as much fun as he expected. This is the story of the snow day that snowballed into the snow year from hell...

In 1991, at the age of 3, Alex received his first Game Boy as a gift to keep him busy on the plane ride to see his brother. Today, 26 years later, he uses that very same DMG and three others to create Pulsing.  From Cedar Falls, Iowa, Pulsing delivers energetic 8-bit chiptune, pulling influences from EDM and punk rock to craft tight melodies and heavy bass grooves. But in the end, Pulsing is about having fun and keeping that smile on your face.

This album is a boldly singular work in tribute to that soft green, leafless plant which grows like nature's carpet in damp conditions around the world. Synth rock, chiptune, bizarro dream pop, product IDs and news reports combine to bryophytic effect in a release that has to be heard to be believed.

"This is the serious time..." Disc 2 picks up right after the Ninja Wizard has thrown Reddy from the top of an under-construction skyscraper. Now joined by Eggret, Franklyn makes the rest of his journey across Hot Dog City to stop the diabolical Mustardo. However, the closer they get, the more desperate and out of control the situation becomes. Will they survive long enough to see to it that Mustardo is destroyed?

"I've always loved Yuzo Koshiro's work on the Streets of Rage series (as well as the games themselves) and thought it would be fun to make my own soundtrack for a scrolling beat 'em up. So 10 years after Franklyn journeyed to Hot Dog City, I decided to throw him and his two friends, Reddy and Eggret into a city-wide brawl in an effort to stop Mayor Helmen (who is really the diabolical Mustardo) from destroying their beloved city." Disc 2 coming soon...

Your Eyes That Once Were Never Weary Of Mine is a 47-minute LSDj trip, an expansive, experimental journey through the flashing, pulsing circuits of two Game Boys. It's a power struggle between harder/dance-able sections that convey some sort of urgency and frustration, and calmer sections that transmit a sense of melancholy and desire for transcendence. Are you ready? Then let's begin.

These ancient belabored melodies have finally escaped the vault of obscurity that they have haunted for years. Woe betide the unfortunate listeners whose souls are burdened by these maddening waveforms.  This minimal effort marks the first addition of maniacal vocals and electric autoharp to EvilWezil's gameboy transmissions. No apologies or explanations were given as to why these songs sat unpublished for so long. The reasons behind his long absence and subsequent return from the void remain...
